Yen was born in Malaysia to Chinese parents who encouraged her to read as much as she wanted. With access to libraries, and bookshop vouchers for every birthday and special occasion, she devoured a large variety of books that nurtured the wild imagination that she has today.
Yen sees herself as a creator, thinker and a do-er, known for her ingenuity, reliability and skills in whatever she does. With a long-standing career in music touring, education and project management, Yen put her skills to writing stories since 2008, producing speculative, science fiction and fantasy in various guises. Her debut novel, Sun: Queens of Earth was published in August 2014, and she has works featured in EAT and For Love and Poetry.
In the last few years, Yen has also worked as Managing Editor for an independent press, and is now a freelance literary strategist, helping writers and literary organisations develop their own strategy and management systems. Current clients include Orna Ross and the Literary Consultancy.
Yen is a member of ALLi, BSFA, SfEP, and a member and panelist of Worldcon.
She shares her home and writing lair in London with her patient husband and two mischievous cats.
